The quality of a carpet job is about 30% the carpet and 70% the fitting. A £40/m² wool twist fitted badly looks worse than a £9/m² polypropylene fitted well. That's why we never subcontract our fitting out to the cheapest man with a van — our fitters have been with us for years, they know what they're doing, and they take pride in leaving a house tidier than they found it.
What fitting day actually looks like: two of our lads arrive around 8am. They move the furniture (including the wardrobe you dread moving), lift the old carpet, bag up the offcuts, check the subfloor, lay fresh underlay, cut and tack the new carpet into the grippers, do the staircase one tread at a time with gripper, underlay, carpet and finishing strip, hoover the room, put the furniture back. Gone by 2pm. You make a brew, sit down, and it looks like it's been there for years.
